What has the backpacker and family hostel, La Peñita Hospedaje, on Isla de Ometepe to offer? 
Situated in the province of Rivas Ometepe our island consists of 2 volcano’s in the Lake of Nicaragua. The volcano’s are surrounded by tropical forest and all its beauty. There are 40 villages on the island which is home to about 38,000 inhabitants. The people of Ometepe are very friendly and totally unspoiled by tourists. No busloads here. Our life isn't spoiled by people from outside. A growing group of travelers and backpackers are taking advantage of sleeping in private homes so they can enjoy contact with the natives and learn more about their our of life. We are a family that is proud of our island and this is the beauty we share with you. Enjoy Ometepe to it maximum by visiting with us. Our island is truly a paradise on earth!
Next to climbing the volcano’s, you can enjoy the diversities that the island of Ometepe has to offer. The different animals and birds like the “howling monkey” or the “Urrauca bird” are typical and can be seen during your stay on the island all the time.
From our Hostel you can take a variety of hiking tours. We have guides waiting to show you places that are only to be seen on foot. Or maybe a bike would be nice to rent because then you can see the whole island; also here we can provide a guide. Perhaps horse back riding is more made for you. No problem. If you don't want to waste time then we will drive you wherever you want to go. After all this excitement you can always refresh yourself by swimming in the "Lake of Nicaragua" or in one of the many little rivers nearby. Returning after a long day of experience we mom and Lizzeth are already working hard to lift your spirits with a delicious home made meal. And remember because te hostel is completely from ourselves we can always change plans to better suit you.
If you want to come with the whole family or alone as backpacker, or group, you've come to the right place. More and more travelers want to stay with family and locals to experience the life we lead on Ometepe. We are such a family and we are proud of our island and we want to share it with you. Climb the volcano Maderas or Conception, look for the hieroglyphics or just relax and enjoy the sunset.
